This film is the second part of the trilogy begun by Martín Farina with Jackal Stories. The first half of Missing revives the aesthetic of the first movie in several senses: alternating current images with family movies on analogue video, it lays out the pieces like someone doing a jigsaw puzzle. A hybrid between documentary and experimental fiction, with a soundtrack featuring superimposed voiceovers, whispers, shrill music and distortions, which links the film to the horror genre. Later, Farina decides to put the puzzle together and abandons the abstract style to concentrate on the family drama at the heart of the film, although he leaves much open-ended and enigmatic. That the family in question is related to Farina is a minor detail: the director decides to stay on the sidelines, like an observer, and keeps the narration in the third person.
