Dietro gli occhiali bianchi is a voyage through the life and career of Lina Wertmüller, the first woman in the history of the cinema to receive an Oscar nomination as best director, for her masterpiece Pasqualino Settebellezze (Seven Beauties, 1975). From the previously unseen images shot at Cinecittà when she was assistant director to Federico Fellini on 8½, the documentary revisits the locations of her most famous movies, to uncover the artistic and human universe of a woman who, ever faithful to her ironic and grotesque nature, has left her mark in every branch of the entertainment industry where she has worked, cinema, theater, television, music. The journey is accompanied by numerous exclusive interviews with artists who bear witness to an intense and continually evolving career: among these Giancarlo Giannini, Marina Cicogna, Sophia Loren and many foreign talents such as Harvey Keitel, Nastassja Kinski, and movie critic John Simon. The movie contains many unseen clips of video, images and songs written by Lina Wertmüller herself. (Venice International Film Festival)
