Istanbul is one of the fastest developing cities in the world. This historic megacity on the banks of the Bosphorus was named as one of the European Capitals of Culture in 2010, and plans are already underway to bring the 2020 Summer Olympics to this gateway straddling Asia and Europe. Fifteen million people officially live in Istanbul, but the actual number is considerably higher, and the population is set to double by 2030. The high price that the city, the environment and above all the residents will have to pay for this growth is continually and deliberately ignored. Imre Azan’s documentary probes the nature of this urban Moloch with a sharp and critical eye and offers a fascinating insight into one of the world’s most diverse and dynamic metropolises.
