Endless waiting. Only a cigarette break or short family visit. People at refugee detention centres dream of release or cower in fear of deportation. Ajna, a Chechen, lives in this timeless void, stubbornly refusing to reveal her identity to the authorities in order to protect her family from persecution. Against the backdrop of her story and that of others in a detention centre close to Stockholm, the film tracks the effort of several staff members to find a balance between the strict rules and the need for empathy that helps the detainees as they struggle to maintain their dignity.
