1928. szeptember 26-án az író Karel Čapek és Tomáš Garrigue Masaryk, Csehszlovákia első elnöke találkoznak a Topolčianky (Kistapolcsányi) kastélyban, hogy eldöntsék, mi lesz a közös irodalmi munkáik sorsa. Miközben az írói felelősségvállalásról, a politikusi tevékenységről vagy éppen személyes kérdésekről vitatkoznak, elragadják őket az érzelmek, és kölcsönösen egymás szemére vetnek dolgokat, megsértik a másikat. A fikciós párbeszédek a jövőbeli könyv idézetein és a levelezésükön alapulnak. (Cinemax)

After seeing this film I must say that even here in Czech Republic, we are able to make theatre-like, intimate films relying on two characters and the wonderfully written dialogues between them. Thanks! I was really enjoying this!

A modest film, short, but it says what it wants to say and is enjoyable to watch. I was sure about Martin Huba in the role of Masaryk, but to be honest I didn't expect how good Budař's Čapek would be. Their dialogue is a joy to listen to, both of them enjoying the various positions that Kosatík's clever script has prepared for them, and Jakub Červenka does his best to get things moving, which he manages to do thanks to a walk through beautiful nature.

Talks with TGM is definitely one of the most intimate Czech films in recent years, and relies mainly on the performances of the two leading actors. For an hour and a quarter, we walk with Masaryk and Čapek on the grounds around the Topolčany castle, listening to their conversations, which go in different directions, from the completely trivial to the intimately personal, with the question of whether or not the book the two men co-authored will be published lingering in the air. A truly minimalist piece of filmmaking that offers a glimpse into the private lives of two giants of Czech history.
