A debauched drama from the half-world based on the novella by Otakar Hanuš. Jarmila Kmínková transformed it into film form, apparently enchanted by the possibility of repeating the Kabátová - Štěpánek couple on screen. It's a spicy drama pieced together from illusory motifs that the novella, only a few pages long, didn't really offer, but the result is all the more perfect a picture of the decline of the Kmínek family, which had dominated certain layers of Czech cinema since 1918. I love the numerous non-dialogue scenes back in 1939, I love the love triangle between lust and reason, and I don't consider the Jola a total fiasco either. I really didn't expect that much sex from Zita. ()
