Mental illness can be triggered by the chemical processes in our brains. But how to help patients when the brain is the most complex thing in the universe? Our mood, mental state, perception, and experiences of the world are influenced by our physical bodies, particularly the brain. The film focuses on the chemical processes inside the brain and the way they manifest themselves in our psyche. Using the example of two patients, contributions from renowned scientists, and animated sequences, the film demonstrates how neurons communicate and how medication can optimize the function of the nervous system even where long-term institutionalization was previously prescribed.
