Mika Kaurismäki's feature debut tells the story of two friends running away from both gangsters and the police. This balladic road movie is considered a ground-breaking film of the Finnish cinema: it said goodbye to the strictly realistic style common at that time and established more playful poetics including magically bizarre dialogues.
