Rose és négy gyermeke leköltözik vidékre, ahol megpróbálnak új életet kezdeni. A múlt sötét titkokat rejt, így nem csoda, hogy megváltoztatják a nevüket és a família Marrowbone vezetéknévvel él tovább. Az anya egészségi állapota azonban rohamosan romlani kezd, halálos ágyán pedig a legidősebb fiú (George MacKay) ígéretet tesz neki, hogy egyben tartja a testvéreit. Egy év múlva eléri a 21 éves kort és akkor már legálisan is gondoskodhat róluk, addig azonban nem várt nehézség sorát kell leküzdeniük. Az első hónapok még gondtalanul telnek, Allie (Anya Taylor-Joy) személyében pedig igazi barátra lelnek. Fél év múltán azonban váratlan látogatójuk érkezik, aki felborítja korábbi csendes életüket, ezután pedig egy ügyvéd is érdeklődni kezd a család rejtélyes múltja felől. (Filmcafe)

The screenwriter of The Orphanage has made a dull, uninteresting thriller with excellent young actors. It was very unattractive on the surface, the plot didn't engage me at all (only the final twist could be praised), the pace is very slow and the fact that nothing much of note happens for the whole film hurts. I didn’t like this. A weaker moment for the Spaniards. 35%.

The Spanish film Marrowbone is not primarily a horror film, because it is also a family and human drama, and then there is also romance, even though its a bit on the darker side. Marrowbone focuses a lot on its finale, but I think some people may be disappointed with it. In the end, you realize that it was all about building atmosphere, but that also didn’t happen. There’s a bit of hypocrisy in it, wherein the creators knew it wouldn't have that much power, but that the viewer could be intrigued by the course of the film. Unfortunately, some of the characters and themes fade out into nothingness.
