Parents of brothers Igor (Jiří Langmajer) and David (Hynek Čermák) plan to have a golden wedding. From Canada arrives their cousin Ondra (Pavel Liška) who has a quite adventure spirit. Brothers and their cousin come up with an idea that the best would be to go the wedding in canoes on the river, only in three, as they have done it in the old days. But since the old days quite a lot has changed. For example Igor and David are married and have kids. Welcome diner for Ondra, who arrives with his young girlfriend Zlatica is slowly turning into a disaster. Zlatice (Jana Kvantiková) who is willing to have a child, finds out that Ondra has a daughter, who he hasn't mentioned before. Igor offers to his wife Nela (Tatiana Vilhelmová) and their daughters a family vacation in case he is allowed to go for that stag-party, but he cannot go for the family holiday because of his job. David's wife Alice (Anna Polívková) can't be happier with her husband's care of their four kids but otherwise her husband is totally useless. And so, as the family diner is getting covered by the soot from the chimney, which David forgot to fix, all of the women run out of patience. So ladies decide to go on a bike trip leaving men with their kids. But fathers don't give up and decide to go on a canoe trip with all the kids in a various age. And so the expedition of ten set sails on a two day cruise seeking an adventure and hilarious experience. (Bioscop)

angol A surprise from a dimension where Czech cinema is not the essence of staged awkwardness and creative dilettantism, but rather a genre hit. However, this (un)wanted harbinger of a summer clone of the "Czech comedy of the century" paradoxically works in every conceivable way. From the precise good child casting to the adult casting that hits the shallow marital humor with the certainty of everyday life. Indeed, it has a tendency to slip into shallowness at times, and the line with the moody watermen could use some tightening up, but it's still a cut above the usual family film production. Maybe it's because it's thankfully not up to anything else. ()

angol Absolutely perfect in terms of acting. There really couldn’t have been a better casting. In terms of “haha” however, it is quite average, which is a shame, because the potential of using actors such as Liška, Čermák or Polívková just calls for a cracking comedy. ()

angol River Rascals relies mainly on a likeable cast, from the adult actors to the kids. Even though it’s basically a simple and straightforward film about family sorrows and joys, it still manages to entertain and even thrill. I have to praise the filmmakers for not over-moralizing and refraining cheap humour, thus avoiding another of the many screenwriting travesties of recent years. ()

angol Given the way I feel about children in film, I had been avoiding this film for a long time. If I were to judge the Czech population based on how Czech screenwriters see it, all men would be dumb assholes and all women insufferable harpies. Fortunately, I know that ten percent of the population are okay, so I allowed myself an occasional laugh, I got over the weaker parts, and in the end it was enough for two stars. ()

angol I thought that this could be a funny Czech film, a comedy that is not world class, but that can make you laugh in places. But that's not what happened. It has plenty of interesting actors and managed to get basically almost nothing out of them. This is an almost reprehensible waste of human potential, and in fact, human time. ()
