Koumba, 20, is furious. She had lived 18 years of her life in Paris, but got into a fight that led to her being taken to the police station and finally put on a plane to Senegal. Her loving family and friends were left behind. An apartment building in a big city turns into a far-off village. The deported girl feels like an outsider among strange relatives. Everyone calls her "the white Koumba". The situation gets even direr when she gives birth out of wedlock. Her attempts to get back to France fail one after another because of insufficient IDs and complex bureaucracy. Koumba's anger grows and grows. Tirelessly director Damien Froidevaux follows Koumba's life for five years, both from a distance in France and in Senegal, even though he too gets his share of Koumba's wrath. The film depicts Koumba as a pawn in a ruthless game of chess, sees her facing an even greater tragedy, and towards the end shows how she changes right before our eyes.
