"The street corner that began the 20th century," says a poster hung in the place where Gavrilo Princip shot archduke Franz Ferdinand. The memorial is swarming tourists who want to be photographed at a place of great historic significance. What kind of a city is Sarajevo today, exactly one hundred years after the fateful gunshots? One day in Sarajevo is a collaborative documentary project where people are able to bring out their own view of the city. Clips filmed by local people and visitors with their own cell phones and digital cameras reveal the significance of the historical events in today's world. The documentary also depicts everyday life, commemoration day proceedings, and protests, accompanied by dramatic music. Even though much time has passed, opinions on the fateful gunshots in Sarajevo are still strongly divided: was the shooter a hero or a terrorist? The film also traces connections between modern day issues, such as unemployment and economic distress, and the events that unfolded a hundred years ago.
