Egy párizsi borbély gyerekkori élményeit eleveníti fel a vészterhes 1941-44-es évekből, amikor a Franciaországot megszálló hitlerista hadigépezet megkezdte az ellenálló hazafiak és a franciaországi zsidók elhurcolását. A Párizsban élő zsidó család tagjai menekülnek, álnéven rejtőzködnek. Kis hősünket, Joseph-et és egy évvel idősebb bátyját, Maurice-t apjuk elküldi, hogy meneküljenek el a szabad zónába. Számtalanszor kerülnek életveszélybe. Okosságuk, ügyességük, néhány önzetlen felnőtt és a szerencse révén mégis megmenekülnek. Veszélyes kalandjaik közepette is csodálhatjuk gyermeki kedélyüket, életrevalóságukat, és furfangosságukat, melyet a legváratlanabb helyzetben is megőriznek... (MTVA)

How is it that the French, being an unbearable nation in real life, can create so many emotional pieces that are just worth watching and make you want to relive the story along with the actors. A Bay of Marbles is another of these exemplary World War II dramas written by the war itself. With the story so powerful it is hard to believe it actually happened. But it did, and I unsuccessfully tried to manage to hold my emotions together for the whole 110 minutes. A powerful story, beautiful French small-town scenery, interesting and exciting plot. If it had me engaged through the whole movie, I’d give it the 5th star. Nonetheless it is a movie you do not want to miss.

Not a bad movie, but I've seen better ones on the same subject. Plus, I couldn't help feeling like I had seen something like this before and found this to be a fusion of Death of the Beautiful Deer and Divided We Fall. I wasn't bored, but neither was I overly excited about it.
