De älskande i San Fernando

The Lovers of San Fernando is a film about a couple’s desperate attempt to once more find their lost happiness. This true story follows a couple during almost twenty years ending in the millennium 2000. It captures the fragrance of hope in the present moment and the dreams that the couple so badly wants to come true. The film depicts a reality beyond the ordinary. What happens to two young people passionately in love when confronted with a hostile environment? We meet the twenty-year old hitchhiker Tinoco on his way to the village San Fernando in northern Nicaragua to marry the sweet Ninoschka. He is from the sea and she from the mountains. To obtain her consent he has to acquire new skills for a new and different life. Ninoschka’s family puts him through severe tests until he at last seizes the power in the family co-operative. In this saga about Ninoschka’s and Tinocos way to middle age, we experience the life cycle of a Nicaraguan village and its inhabitants during continuous war and violent struggle for power in the local co-operative and how it affects the family relations. We get to know and love Ninoschka and we engage in her fight for survival. (DOK.fest München)
