Film director Roberta Marques guides us, in her motion picture, through current Brazilian reality of the North-east where white beaches and omnipresent poverty of local inhabitants dominate. The main character is a teenage girl Rânia who dreams to become a professional dancer. However one day, her friend Zizi takes her to the local night club where she could make her living as an escort and thus provide for her family. The film is based on a threadbare story that deals with unfulfilled desires, social boundaries and intergenerational conflict. Nevertheless, Rânia differs from similar films thanks to its uncompromising form that does not pander to current trends and thanks to the outstanding performance of the principal actor Graziela Felix.
