The father of modern computer technology, a brilliant mathematician and a war hero who helped the Allies defeat the Third Reich. All the above applies to a British scientist Alan Turing. This short documentary portrays this inspirational individual through the eyes of mathematicians, scientists and many others for whom Turing remains a role model. Turing was the first to introduce the modern concept of computers, still in use today. During the Second World War it was necessary for him to keep secret the credit he deserved for breaking the Enigma code. Turing faced persecution numerous times for his homosexuality. A different sexual orientation was a punishable offence. His conviction and subsequent hormone treatment were humiliating for Turing, as well as his inability to fulfil his vision of creating a machine capable of performing the same tasks as the human brain. The society that condemned him started to pay its debt to him almost sixty years after his suicide. Alan Turing has become the theme and inspiration of a seemingly infinite number of works – ranging from feature films, science fiction novels and biographies to songs played on the Enigma machine.
