Rocco Granata became an Italian immigrant in Flanders, Belgium as a little boy. His father got a job in the local mines, but young Rocco had been fascinated by the accordion since early childhood. Although his father had little understanding of his passion, Rocco climbed his way up from playing at parties to have his own band, which caught the attention of a local producer. Is it however possible to tear down the “immigrant” label that was created by the majority Belgian society? Stijn Coninx's biographical film is based on Rocco Granata's memories of his childhood and growing up, and shows the background of the creation of Granata's first hit – “Marina”. The director manages to capture the spirit of the working class neighborhoods, the wild freedom of youth and the remarkable power of music through captivating art direction and an excellent cast.
