(Cinemax)

Banshee (2013)

angol I'm reviewing the series after only two seasons, which is about as much as I can take. Antony Starr is a great actor who did a fantastic job alternating between the Magnum look number one through five so professionally that I didn't even register the difference. If the sheriff he portrayed had some sort of venereal disease, the whole town probably had it. I don’t think I’ve ever seen so many unnecessary sex scenes and pointless fights. There was hardly any development in the story, and I was often bored. It was also full of various clichés and flashbacks. The only interesting character could have been Kai Proctor, if only the creators had given him more screen time. ()

Season 1 (2013) (S01)

angol The first season of Banshee was a huge disappointment. Instead of concentrating on the story, the filmmakers focused on boring soft porn scenes. I have nothing against female nudity, it's just that most of those scenes were irrelevant to the development of the plot. But hey, all the actresses had it in their contract, so... As the episodes went on, there was an increasing number of various clichés, the initially great action scenes lapsed into mere filler (such as the pointless fight between the sheriff and Proctor over Rebecca), and I gradually lost interest in the whole affair. ()

Pilot (2013) (S01E01)

angol The first episode of the series didn't look bad at all, it transported me into a very interesting environment and delivered a decent portion of well-executed action. I was quite entertained the whole time, and the ending even kicked it up a notch when it reminded me of "The Distant Peaks of the Mountains" after years. ()

The Rave (2013) (S01E02)

angol After the second episode, satisfaction continues to prevail, boredom did not threaten again because something was constantly happening, I am still enjoying the atmosphere of the remote town, and just like in the previous installment, there was a decent amount of action. The conclusion with the Preacher amused me very much. ()

Meet the New Boss (2013) (S01E03)

angol Unlike the majority of users, I wasn't too excited this time. I somehow didn't want to believe and still don't believe that Carrie (despite her intense training) would handle her father's security so smoothly. The fight with Sanchez didn't please me either, although I could reminisce about movies from the early 90s with him (mainly "Van Damme movies") where the positive hero would get beaten up for twenty minutes like a tough steak, only to unexpectedly win in the final moments, but that's already an outdated formula. ()

Half Deaf Is Better Than All Dead (2013) (S01E04)

angol The creators focused predominantly on erotica (or soft porn) within the fourth episode, and considering I've seen quite a lot already, I found it boring at times. I would say it's a shame because I quite enjoyed Proctor's arrest and the Moody family's revenge. The sheriff pulling off a heist at the museum and then running around with an exposed face in front of a bunch of state police officers was a bit over the top. ()

The Kindred (2013) (S01E05)

angol Did the creators really mean this? Probably yes. A gang of ten bikers really scared me and the whole episode's plot revolved around this dysfunctional base. I admit that I laughed a few times, so I give the second star for unintentional humor, otherwise it was more like crying. Now I don't know, is Carrie from this episode the same person who disabled my dad's security in a few seconds? Disaster. ()

Wicks (2013) (S01E06)

angol Truth, the sixth episode didn't have such a stupid plot as the previous one, but it had Wick, a character who was thoroughly annoying. The story practically didn't move anywhere, I only found out that the main hero won't just sleep with anyone and that in this episode, Kat and Rebecca took time off while warming his bed was involved. ()

Behold a Pale Rider (2013) (S01E07)

angol Like this, this episode wasn't a disaster, but I can't say I would dance with joy because of it either. Without a doubt, I acknowledge that the creators don't hold back with the action scenes, but they can't avoid the annoying clichés such as last-minute rescues and endangering characters that are extremely important to the main hero. ()

We Shall Live Forever (2013) (S01E08)

angol All the characters, to whom the great, little fighter Jean-Claude Van Damme once breathed life, would shamefully watch with lowered heads and drooling, slowly flowing from the left corner, to see what all Carrie can endure. I assume that the episode was sponsored by some glass company, otherwise I don't understand why there had to be so many broken windows in the shots. ()

Always the Cowboy (2013) (S01E09)

angol Terminator snake, Oleg will stab Carrie with a sharpened plank from the fence and as soon as she wakes up from unconsciousness in the hospital, she will go out among ordinary people. In the end, I laughed at it, I didn't want to cry. It is clear to me now that I was fooled by high ratings and nervously realizing that I still have a second season at home... ()

A Mixture of Madness (2013) (S01E10)

angol The final episode of the first season was a clear mockery of the hopeful viewer. One cliché surpassed the other: the sheriff, of course, defiantly hands over his badge (as if I've seen that somewhere before...), the traditional last-minute rescue even occurred twice here for a great success, the main villain, who was shot, naturally escapes, and the cherry on top came as well. I quote: "I don't care what kind of gangsters they are, but now they've chosen the wrong town." Seriously? Yeah, yeah, Ratemus has been saying it all along and he was right. ()

Season 2 (2014) (S02)

angol What annoyed me about Season 1 was still there in Season 2, plus the writing was getting worse with each new episode. The creators increasingly relied on "steamy" sex scenes and mostly unnecessary fights between the sheriff and the rest of the world. If the plot had revolved more around Kai Proctor, the rating might have been higher. I was mostly bored, largely due to the constant flashbacks. ()

Little Fish (2014) (S02E01)

angol The second season, unfortunately, started with another weak episode, which was opened by two quite unnecessary dialogues. There was a rather unbelievable investigation of events from the end of the first season, then I was annoyed by an armored car ambush, and I only hope that dog owners in Banshee are careful with their pets because the sheriff clearly runs over everything alive. If I were in Job's place, I would pack the diamonds and disappear very quickly... ()

The Thunder Man (2014) (S02E02)

angol The plot is getting more and more laughable, the sad part is that the creators take it seriously. Maybe I'm not the right age for it, at thirteen I would have definitely enjoyed that masturbation scene to the fullest:-) If I understood everything correctly, poor Rebecca was kidnapped just so the sheriff would have a reason for his shootout with the casino security. By the way, the way Nola tossed around those three marines was like something out of Marvel. ()

The Warrior Class (2014) (S02E03)

angol The Indian episode was indeed much better than previous parts, the confrontation with Jason Hood was quite funny, but what amused me the most was the development of the Indian raid on the amenities. Oh, I also must not forget that my sheriff has a fresh notch on his..., well, he simply has a fresh notch. ()

Bloodlines (2014) (S02E04)

angol Three minutes before the credits, they were filled with clear nonsense, and even then it wasn't much better. I don't understand why the town of Banshee is called a backwater, they even have their own squat here! The storyline with the Amish teacher would be fine if it weren't for another senseless fight with the sheriff, fortunately, Kai Proctor saved everything, but a visit from Rabbit in prison and on a wheelchair, that's something a screenwriter would dream about. And then there's Little Stone... ()

The Truth About Unicorns (2014) (S02E05)

angol It is really exhausting that a substantial part of each episode consists of dreams, visions, and constant flashbacks. Although the entire episode was full of events, most of them faded away without any impact on the further development, so they were mostly unnecessary. Simply a typical filler to stretch the plot. ()

Armies of One (2014) (S02E06)

angol The sixth episode was among the more bearable ones, I just wonder why the creators didn't choose an Englishwoman instead of an Englishman, there could have been an interesting interaction between her and the sheriff, instead of a brawl on the road, there could have been a duel over who gets there first. Quentin, however, amused me anyway: "I won't ask again. So where's the money?" ()

Ways to Bury a Man (2014) (S02E07)

angol I didn't watch the seventh episode that badly, I was entertained by Ground Jason, Proctor's solution to Indian affairs, and the sheriff's resolution with Kai. It's just a shame that the creators couldn't resist using the same template again for the sheriff's confrontation with Gordon and the Aryan mechanics. As usual, pointless fights, the script is simply unremarkable and keeps spinning the same scenes over and over again, only with different characters fighting the sheriff. ()
