The story of The Pulitzer Prize nominee Lustig is about the power of love under an extreme life circumstances. It is a story of young lovers and their vigorous determination to escape from a hopeless life condition and theirs courage to face death. Lustig's novel Colette, a Girl from Antwerp upon which the film is based, draws on the author's personal Nazi Concentration Camp experience and his own recollection of several escape attempts from the hell of Auschwitz. angol Colette isn't a bad film, but I prefer Cieslar's earlier encounters with WWII. Theoretically, I should be burning for anything with Lustig's signature, but unfortunately, his themes tend not to work with the film's overall context. Of the recent competitors, I appreciated In Silence more. ()

angol I was almost surprised that such a film was successfully made in a Czech co-production because it definitely has more than the typical Czech production. But I guess it's because there was also more money involved here. The acting is fine - as long as it's in the concentration camp; otherwise, it's boring. But even then, the film doesn't offer a new perspective; it's just another grim story where what you expect is what you get. Nothing extra. ()
