Sobre Ruedas (el sueño del automóvil)

Spanish film-maker Óscar Clemente, caricaturist Miguel Brieva and architect Diego Brieva have taken aim at our daily “need” to drive. It is their union that makes this documentary about the long-term problem of road traffic, an amusing, light-hearted film, which makes us aware that the problem is practically insolvable. To put it simply, we depend on cars, at least in cities. The authors show “the world of cars” in a playful form, combining documentary footage with humorous cartoons and archive materials, and often providing statistical data (for example, how many times all the cars in the world would wrap around the equator, or how much space on Earth is taken up by cars). The film tries to show alternatives, such as environmentally-friendly cars and changing roads to pedestrian zones. The authors also constantly draw attention to the anti-social and unsound character of road traffic. The amusing form of the presentation has a self-reflecting function, to remind the audience that it is necessary to talk about the problem, even though it may not be possible to solve it.
