Acclaimed Hong Kong actors Simon Yam and Francis Ng venture into the dark side in the Mainland frightfest Midnight Beating! A rare horror film to come out of China, the psychological thriller combines suspense, supernatural, and even sensual elements to create an engrossing, edge-of-your-seat experience for the audiences. Having made a number of scary movies and TV shows in Japan, director Zhang Jiabei's latest film often reminds people of classic J-horror flicks. Japanese cinematographer Nakazawa Masayuki is responsible for the photography of the chiller, and his background in the adult video industry proved useful for the film's intimate scenes involving the leading men and Mainland starlets Yang Yuyu, Yao Di, and Li Nian. The story revolves around a series of gruesome, inexplicable deaths that takes place in a hospital rumored to be haunted. Yang Yuyu plays a nurse distraught by her sister's recent death under suspicious circumstances. She turns to her sister's husband (Simon Yam) and the hospital's psychiatrist (Francis Ng) for help, but can they really be trusted? Everyone seems to harbor unspeakable secrets of their own...
