What is Sarah Palin like, as a person? Filmmaker Nick Broomfield tries to find the answer in Wasilla, Alaska. The film spans Palin's career from a schoolgirl to the mayor of her hometown Wasilla and the figurehead of the conservative Tea Party movement, all the way to a vice presidential candidate. The interviewees focus mainly on Palin's youth and work in local politics, which makes sense since Palin's recent exploits have already been widely covered in the media. The camera follows as Broomfield goes to great lengths to get an interview from Palin herself, but the word spreads fast about the director's talks with the enemies of his subject matter. The film builds into a take on the personal relationships and corruption in small town politics, and paints a callous portrait of its main character.
