We take it for granted and use it all the time but only those who have lost it or have not been born with it realize its indispensability for life. Memory has been investigated in the popular BBC documentary series about science and its effects on nature – Horizon. In the episode How Does Your Memory Work? the authors describe the functions of specific areas of the brain associated not only with memory, but also with imagining future events. The scientists explain how memory centres work, introduce their different anamneses and treatment methods by means of scientific tests and the real-life examples of three people from different countries. Our first memory is usually from around the age of three. At the age of five, we start thinking about the past and the future and from the age of nine, we are fully aware of our position in time. But the time will come when our brain cells gradually start their deterioration. When memory loss occurs, our minds are disoriented and people who have not been born with the ability to remember are forced to live only in the present. (Academia Film Olomouc)
