June, 1941. Two months after graduating from the Imperial Japanese Army Academy, Kagawa (Ryutaro Tatsumi) is assigned to take post as Captain of a small company positioned in North Manchukuo. His predecessor, First Lieutenant Kishi, was a man of leniency. His leadership had gained the trust of his former troops and locals, but Kagawa frowned upon this. He is determined to beat his troops back into shape, but some already have plans of their own. One night, he overhears his men and the locals conspiring to provoke a war against the Soviets.
