With its famously ‘wobbly’ animation, wacky theme music and gloriously silly word play, the original 1974 series of Roobarb won instant acclaim and the hearts of some 7 million teatime viewers. And not all of them were children! Created by Grange Calveley, the lovably loopy Roobarb’s boundless enthusiasm gets him into all sorts of hilarious scrapes - and he’s constantly hindered as well as helped by his best friend Custard the cat. Such has been their popularity over the decades that the green and pink duo were voted ‘Britain’s Best Animated Cartoon Characters’ in 2000 - an accolade that led to the creation of Roobarb and Custard Too.
