Az intelligens Hong-Kong-i rendőrfelügyelő, Chan, annak szentelte életét, hogy börtönbe juttassa a hírhedt bandavezért, Wong Po-t. A tanú és a felesége is meghal, csak a kislányuk marad életben. Chan csak megsérül, de amikor eltávolítják fejéből az üvegszilánkot, kiderül, hogy rákja van, és már nincs sok ideje hátra. Eközben Ma Kwan-t, egy másik körzet hírhedten kemény rendőrfelügyelőjét nevezik ki Chan részlegének élére, aki elhatározza, hogy rendet csinál. TV-style camerawork, unconvincing actors, a stolen and bad screenplay. And tension between the separate characters is non-existent. Add to that too little action, and when there is, it’s kind of bland. The whole thing is accompanied by good, but inappropriately used background music. But despite all of the minuses, it isn’t at all boring. Just terribly average and uninteresting.

A classic Hong Kong style film where heroic policemen walk into certain death. Nothing I haven't seen before, but I'm raising the rating for the gritty finale that goes balls to the wall.

I admit the action scenes here are unreal, but really a total ride. I've never seen hand-to-hand fights like this before, really awesome. Unfortunately there's not that many of them. All in all, two bigger ones and two smaller ones, if I'm not mistaken. What's the rest of the running time filled with? A totally full-fledged interpretation of the word cliché. If I had to list them all, I'd be writing the review till Saturday (it's Thursday). From the Hamlet-esque beginning to the Hamlet-esque ending, the viewer is crushed with sentiment seen a thousand times, cretinous acting performances, and ridiculous character motivations. Plus, detachment is a dirty word in this film. Too bad, because the action is really worth seeing.

An excellent action film, surprisingly not filled with a lot of action, but when there is some, it's worth it. Especially the ending is absolutely breathtaking and it's not even spoiled by any digital trick that is used here. But only in the scene where it was almost necessary. Good finale and above all, absolutely fantastic performances by Donnie Yen and Sammo Hung Kam-Bo.
