Dave Ming Chang (Eddie Murphy), aki nemrégiben érkezett New Yorkba, kissé olyan, mint egy üres medencében úszó ember. Valami ugyanis nagyon nincsen rendben vele. Azoknak, akik először látják, rögtön szembeötlik, hogy nem százas ez a figura és hogy a testében sincs igazán otthon. E feltűnő jellemvonásnak persze nyomós oka van, hiszen Dave nem egy ember, hanem egy olyan hajó, melyet a legénységét irányító miniatűr kapitány arcmására formáltak. Kész őrület. (RTL Gold)

In my opinion, if you want to do comedy, you should have a sense of humor. I guess nobody told the makers of this movie that, unfortunately. On the other hand, Eddie Murphy is a good actor and there were some good bits at times... hence the 2 stars.

The problem with most films starring Eddie Murphy is his very presence. His grimaces and gestures have long been clichés, so his performance is not that funny and any memory of him fizzles out like steam over a pot by the end. The premise isn't bad at all, the effects are decent, and Gabrielle Union is adorable. The rest is rather below average. In short, imaginative, occasionally funny, but terribly predictable and the acting is pretty weak.
