A történet egy montanai indián rezervátumban kezdődik. Vörös Nyíl Buddy, a fiatal indián karizmatikus és erős egyéniség, ráadásul politikai aktivista, népe érdekeit próbálja védeni. Philbert Bono egy nagydarab, könnyűvéru férfi, aki spirituális harcos szeretne lenni, és ezért van Buddy társaságában. Ketten együtt indulnak útnak Amerikán keresztül egy 64-es Buickkal, amelyet elneveztek Védelmezőnek. A két indián sokat tanul az út alatt a barátságról, szeretetről és kulturális örökségükről, mialatt a Powwow elnevezésű autópálya fantasztikus tájain haladnak végig. (RTL Klub)

Actually, I don’t really get to see Native Americans in movies. What’s more, I don’t get to see movies that would try to capture the time and the despair of some of the native tribes who down alcohol day after day. It’s not been long since someone told me that Americans view the natives the same way we view gypsies. It’s really sad to realize that they are the ones who are the original inhabitants of that country. That’s also why I’ve been a big fan of them since the beginning of the movie. Of course, their frantic road trip went as smooth as butter. And the policemen were not of much use. But I especially liked the way the main character awakened the hope for a better life; not only for himself, but also for his friends. If nothing else, this movie is probably the best ride of the Cheyenne Indians through the American prairie I’ve ever seen.
