This film presents the Danish writer and cineaste Jørgen Leth’s very personal vision of a dying paradise. Haiti. Untitled is his seminal work about Haiti, the island where he has lived since 1991. Leth is a fascinated observer of the country’s past and present, capturing its reality, which is crazier and more surreal than fiction could ever be. Haiti’s history is written in blood: the dictatorship of François “Papa Doc’” Duvalier, the terror of the Tonton Macoutes, massacres, intrigues… Over five years Leth and his small crew have fathomed the Caribbean Island’s fascinating chaos, its myth and mysteries, horror and sensuality, the dramatic manifestations and ritual beauty of Voodoo ceremonies and the merciless brutal political terror. This epic documentary shows highly personal and powerfully sensual pictures of life and death in Haiti. (DOK.fest München)
