Kirsten Flagstad (1895-1962) is one of historys greatest operatic voices, particularly famous for her fantastic Wagner interpretations. Her golden years were during the interwar period, when she sang at opera houses around the world. Then World War II broke out. Flagstad was married to Henry Johansen, who did business with the Nazis. After the war she was accused of being a Nazi sympathizer. Flagstad met her critics with silence. She continued her opera career and established the Norwegian Opera in 1957, paying the singers out of her own pocket. This film is a restoration of Kirsten Flagstads reputation - both as an artist and as a human being. It crushes the myths and prejudices against her as a Nazi sympathizer once and for all.
