New York, 1940. The Tonka docks filled with exhausted refugees. Among them is Ferry Tobler, a young Austrian teenager who boarded the ship atMarseilles. During the trip hemade friends with FreddyWolff, a young Jewish compatriot. The two young boys dreamof leading a normal life, but their origins and social status set them against this country which had seemed like a new El Dorado.
