angol Director Paul Martin did better when he worked with Lilian Harvey, Lída Baarová or Johann Heesters. Zarah Leander did not consider his great film The Desert Song to be very successful. Perhaps a rewrite of Werner Illing's "Aufschub für Brenton" would have been better without such a distinguished star. In terms of her filmography, it was simply a repetition of what she had already seen in a new combination and with new co-actors. The attractive desert setting was very popular at the time, but it wasn't enough on its own. Of all the films of the time, it is worth mentioning the Technicolor wonder The Garden of Allah with Marlene Dietrich, or Lady of the Tropics with Hedy Lamarr. This allowed the actresses to wear sophisticated, airy costumes, which I would consider the biggest positive of the entire phenomenon. Yet the story of the singer, in which Zarah was supposed to shine, did not intersect much with the Bedouin war conflict in the slightest. The way fans deal with it nowadays is that they only go back to individual songs and costumes. Even Gustav Knuth was not found to be an ideal film idol. He did not come into color until the 1950s as Duke Max of Bavaria from the Sissi trilogy. ()
