Season 1 (2015) (S01)

angol Initially, this show seemed interesting, and it seemed to have a decent narrative, with some interesting characters. However, I got bored with it quite quickly as it went on. It was becoming more and more predictable and uninteresting. The ecchi aspect, which I had previously thought was very good, quickly got old. It seemed they needed to force something erotic in at any cost. They are quite inappropriate too and crop up at the wrong moment. So within a couple of episodes, I thought this anime series dropped from a strong three stars to a weak two stars. Fortunately, the ending was not bad, and I might give the second season this October a go after all. 4/10. ()

Burst (2015) (S02)

angol In my opinion, the second season of The Testament of Sister New Devil is a bit better than the first. I found that the plot was quite interesting, even though they decided to cram all that ecchi into it wherever they could, and at any cost, which distracted me again. For example, take the second episode, where moments that I would call "how they are having fun so far and what Maria is thinking" are implemented into the plot with absolutely no sense and appear out of nowhere and ruin my viewing experience. To make myself more clear: I am talking here about moments when something happens and suddenly turns into ecchi without any reason. Or, there is suddenly a glimpse of a distraught female protagonist without any context. Then they show us a succubus Maria and explain that it was just her imagination or fun, and then cut back again as if it had not happened at all. I simply do not understand why they did not omit these "random" moments altogether and devote more time to the plot. However, this is ecchi, so I guess that is why! I compared this first season to High School DxD. Unfortunately, The Testament of Sister New Devil loses in that comparison for me. High School DxD has a much better main male protagonist, who, by simply being a pervert, gives this show a much more entertaining and natural feel for me, where even all the ecchi comes across much better and feels more casual. Plot-wise, I also enjoy High School DxD a bit more because it feels less predictable to me. On the other hand, Basara's Harem looks a bit more interesting, and you can see (despite all the crazy censorship) that he has gotten a lot further with the girls than Issei. The fact that the main female protagonist calls him my little brother is something that puts me off because I cannot share this Japanese enthusiasm for passion between siblings (even if they were half-siblings). So the second season did not disappoint me; rather, it shocked me a bit and brought a lot of interesting questions, especially about Basara's parents, and it intrigued me, which is why I am raising the rating of this show. 5.5/10.
