In the 90s, Swedish skateboarder Ali Boulala gained world-wide recognition for his unusual tricks – and infamy for his drunken antics. In this documentary, Max Eriksson combines classic skate videos, private archive material and eight years of footage of the adult Boulala to tell the story of his rise to fame – and the accident that changed his life forever. The Scars of Ali Boulala is a must for all skateboarding fans, but it’s also a deeply human exploration of belonging, transgression, addiction, guilt and emotional and psychological scars.
