007 Nincs idő meghalni (2021)

angol A very dignified farewell. Daniel Craig clearly enjoys the whole thing much more than in Spectre, and Cary Joji Fukunaga proves to be the perfect man to direct. No Time to Die has a great opening and an excellent ending, and it plods a bit in between, but not to the point where it hurts. Fukunaga is unlucky to have been given the task of retelling the story that was so poorly picked up by Sam Mendes in Spectre, and it was probably no fun to make sense of it all and milk some emotion out of this latest Bond flick. Fortunately, Fukunaga manages it quite well, despite Léa Seydoux being an extremely uninteresting actress and playing probably the most boring Bondgirl ever. Unfortunately, Fukunaga couldn't get rid of her, so I take it he did what he could. He's much better in scenes where he can invent new things and not work with what's left. The action is good, imaginative and different every time. And the whole No Time to Die changes its style unexpectedly and often, so that at times it's reminiscent of Craig's Bond films, at other times it makes you think of the days when Roger Moore or Sean Connery were Agent 007, and in some scenes the film can be surprisingly gritty and uncompromising. The whole thing could have been shorter, had a more prominent villain, and the middle part does drag a bit at times, but overall it's a film that's definitely worth seeing. And Craig can be happy with how he parted with his license to kill.

15 perc hírnév (2001)

angol Quite suspenseful and a bit different than the usual thrillers mainly because it focuses on a pair of killers, not cops. Karel Roden is cool, Edward Burns is a prude, and all in all I found this to be a relaxing above average film.

1917 (2019)

angol 1917 will be talked about as the war film that was shot in one take. Which it isn't, but we all know that, and I don't feel like anyone should mind. However, it would be a big mistake to just look at it as a technically perfect film where Sam Mendes and Roger Deakins fool around with the camera. The latter is, of course, amazing; 1917 looks like a computer game, with the camera managing to pan around the characters during dialogue, crawling along with them across the battlefield with cameraman looking for the craziest but still functional angles from which to capture everything. But the main star here is still Mendes as the narrator, who manages to get under the skin of both the characters and the audience in that "one shot". Initially, cold and distant, and like one of the soldiers, he treats the whole mission as just an order to be carried out, hoping to survive. Gradually, however, he begins to acknowledge the importance of the mission and very powerful and emotional scenes subtly, but eventually very intensely, surface. And for example the whole passage in the burning village or the very end are incredibly powerful moments. The film doesn't just look great. It's great throughout.

28 héttel később (2007)

angol An incredibly stupid script in which all the members of the army behave like morons. Fortunately, the director saves what he can. But it could have been MUCH better.

28 nap (2000)

angol Sandra Bullock can't act, the script isn't worth much either, but the film has something that just doesn't allow me to condemn it absolutely. That something is my all-time favorite Steve Buscemi. It's simply because of him that I can't give it one star.

8 bites karácsony (2021)

angol A retro Christmas comedy about the fact that in life there are more important things than a dream phone and a console under the Christmas tree. The likeable cast and a nice atmosphere mostly disguise the fact that there wasn't much money for 8-bit Christmas, but halfway through, it starts to pick up. Unfortunately, the final change of pace and actually genre is quite dysfunctional and at best, it seems strange. But you can spend an evening with this retro affair and it won’t offend adults or kids.

8 milliméter (1999)

angol Damn good and damn rough. As a crime drama, 8MM ventures into less explored waters and it's very, very good. Heavy depression to the end. Not for the faint of heart.

9 - A szám hatalma (2007)

angol A smart and well shot and written film with great actors. Definitely not for everyone, but worth checking out.

A 23-as szám (2007)

angol A fairly decently made piece of crap with a dreadful script. Jim Carrey is utterly unsuited for this genre and the screenwriter literally crammed the film with absurd and ridiculous bullshit. A complete waste of time and a huge misstep in Carrey's career.

A 44. gyermek (2015)

angol As a detective drama, it's pretty lousy; as a psychological drama about people who have to live a lie and can't even rely on their loved ones, and risk jail or a bullet in any attempt to leave the system, it's surprisingly fine. But the running time is excessive anyway.
