Káoszbrigád (2018)

angol A comedy with dialogues quality similar to any movie starring Josh Radnor. The only difference here is that you can feel that the script was written by a female writer, which isn’t necessarily a bad thing, but the absurdity of certain situations was.

A történet (2018)

angol Laura Dern in a movie which pretends to have a story with a capital S, only there’s no need to pretend anything since that is the title of the movie. At the same time, it tells a completely simple tale of how easy it can sometimes be to banish any thoughts from your past when you can’t understand them or refuse to. As far as the actors go, it gets a little tiring half-way, but the ending is so jaw-dropping that it might take you a moment to collect yourself.

Case (2015) (sorozat)

angol A decent Icelandic case, only its chance of becoming more public was ruined by the voice acting. The voice actors sound bored and it transfers to the show itself. They are not, however, the only problem. Another downside are the actors who look like they’re missing a few buttons on their remote control. The interesting case is also dragged down by the main duo whose replacement would probably grant the series another star. A shame, because overall, it wasn’t that bad.

G-Force - Rágcsávók (2009)

angol A wannabe funny animated movie which will probably only be appreciated by kids.

Fák jú Tanár úr! 3. (2017)

angol I wasn’t very hopeful that they could keep up with the quality of the prequels, but in the end, it really wasn’t all that bad. The problem was that funny scenes were followed by cringy ones, which only reminded me of Girls, Girls and an era during which everybody said that the Germans made the worst movies in Europe because they were only familiar with these crazy commercial comedies – frantic editing, absurd scenes, wannabe funny music insertions… There were a few scenes like that in this movie. For example, the moment when Chantal and her friend accidentally indulged in virtual sex, and her friend’s grandma put a cookie in her mouth. Well, luckily, they saved it with the rest and with the fact that I’ve already grown used to this throughout the first and the second movie.

Elefánt (2003)

angol Gus van Sant’s a pro. I certainly can’t deny that he showed certain director qualities in this movie. The impersonal and precise analysis of a school atmosphere was perfect. The impersonality is so raw and emotionless that it’s hard to view this movie from any other angle. But it all stands and falls with the end that is brutal, even given the expectations. But it doesn’t tell you anything about anyone at that school, it just shows what happened there in a dull manner. But why? That’s what Michael Moore’s documentary is for.

'84 nyara (2018)

angol The era of 80’s summer adventures with your childhood gang behind your back and some good synthwave soundtracks shall never end. This movie has exactly the same vibe that we’ve recently seen in It or the show Stranger Things. It’s a remarkable mysterious story, with an atmosphere that bursts at seams with the 80’s and music that is more popular now than ever. I had so much fun. A childhood adventure that begins almost as a family movie and ends with quite the massacre.

Újra otthon (2017)

angol Reese, Reese, I love you, but you shouldn’t have gotten tangled with the young and hopeful. It didn’t do you any good and now your acting portfolio has an overwhelmingly mediocre entry. This was good for nothing other than to fall asleep to while listening to the soothing sound of raindrops falling onto a red-hot summer highway.

Ördöglakat (2013)

angol I’d love to give this a higher rating, but I was sorely disappointed by the narration at the expense of the premise. The parts that are supposed to be shocking completely manage to escape your attention and when it comes to the court scenes, you’re basically falling asleep. I can’t shake the feeling that a premise as interesting as this deserved an atmosphere which would be better, darker and a tad more brutal. Not at the expense of the premise, but at the expense of the atmosphere that wasn’t even there in the first place. The only thing I got from this was a yearning to find out more about this case. However, the movie had already said everything. It was objective and the investigation, which doesn’t even exist in the movie in the form we are used to seeing in films, was described with a pinpoint accuracy. And even when there was the opportunity to speculate, it didn’t really hesitate at all. This makes it all the more ridiculous that they’ve let this case go cold in the US.

Action Point - Extrém vidámpark (2018)

angol After watching the trailers, I was pretty sure that Johnny Knoxville can’t go wrong with this one. This theme is a familiar one for him, it’s just a shame he looks a bit old now. As I was watching, I realized I haven’t really seen him in a movie for quite some time. But why? He’s great at comedy and he’s always managed to do his action scenes well. He might be pushing fifty in this movie, but he still isn’t afraid to do his own stunts, which is a good thing. Action Point is undermined by its premise, though. It’s as plain as a pikestaff, but there are some good surprising moments when it’s worth it to watch everything that’s happening on screen. Sometimes, there’s more fun happening behind the actors in the background than in the foreground, which might be the biggest downside of the movie. It’s a good one, but it could have been so much better.
