Szarvak (2013)

angol Daniel Radcliffe wants to free himself from his fateful character so much that I feel like since the end of the Harry Potter saga, he deliberately only takes roles of characters that are crazy or not quite alright. Good for him. So far, it has paid off without an issue. Horns is a fantasy crime investigation movie that abstractly tells the story of a murder. I admit that without thehorns, it would be a classic crime investigation, but it’s all the more fun with them because I’ve never seen such an idea before. What’s more, it is filmed in such a clever way that there can be no talk of a B-grade movie. I have to say – it really made me happy.

Agyas és agyatlan (2016)

angol Sometimes good, but sometimes intentionally brutally disgusting. So disgusting, in fact, that it goes beyond disgust. And I deliberately played this comedy right after Animal with Belmondo to realize what kind of comedies were made back then and what kind of comedies are made today. And I have to admit that I much prefer the kind of comedies they madeback then. Now they only seem to be fighting for their moment in the sun by trying to fit as many disgusting things as possible on an eight-millimeter film.

Az állat (1977)

angol The sincerest confession of a comedian with nerves of steel and the acrobatic talent to survive all his stunts. You could knock me down with a feather if a tiger jumped at someone else the same way it jumped at Bebel; but he even toyed with the beast, commanded it and it obeyed with no problems. And there’s plenty of scenes like this. Animal is my favorite and the most amusing Belmondo movie. You feel peaceful and chill, although you know that a lot of the scenes had to cost him at least three underwear changes. I don’t get that sort of feeling with the movies nowadays and I probably never will.

Felkavar a szél (2006)

angol When there’s talk of Czech national pride, a lot of people say that it was there when the Germans occupied us. However, watch this movie to try and imagine how scarred the average Irish national pride is. What was happening there in the 1920s was no less harsh and I’m not all that surprised that this pride and separation from the Great Britain is so prominent to this day. It will probably never be any different for some families. It’s just a shame that the movie was so terribly emotionless. It was shot with such a strange camerawork that it even seemed like the camera was absent in some situations. It had good moments, for sure, but I feel like a premise like this could have had way more of them.

Törésvonal (2015)

angol The Americans tend to shoot a disaster movie once in a while, cry their eyes out and show Americanism in its harshest form. And they usually take down Los Angeles or San Francisco. It lies on two tectonic plates, so it’s strongly fitting for a similar movie. For many decades now. Fortunately, San Andreas doesn’t deviate from the standard and performs solid popcorn entertainment, which is supported by Hulk Dwayne and solid CGI. It’s almost a surprise that a similarly tuned movie wasn’t made by Emmerich, but by the talented Peyton instead, because he massacred the surroundings very well.

Zoom (2015)

angol An absolute lunacy that, at least according to me, squeezes as much as possibleout of the eye-catching Alison Pill. The story is one big pile of madness, and as soon as the animation gets involved, it’s an outrightmess.

Költői szerelem (2002)

angol A terribly boring piece that not even Aaron Eckhart and Gwyneth Paltrow can save. And it gives the impression that the poet Ash was outright some mythical figure of British Victorian poets. The whole story revolves around him, as if he was the most important poet on the whole continent.

Barash (2015)

angol 51. KVIFF – An absolutely mediocre and indistinct story from the environment of Israeli youths who party, drink booze, blazes, try one drug after another and discover a hitherto undiscovered kind of sexuality; thus, nothing fundamentally different from what’s happening in the rest of Europe. After watching, I thought a lot about whether to give it two or three stars. But the only really good scene was when a Jewish family went to search for a lost daughter in the Muslim area of Israel. At that point, I thought that it could lead to a lot of fun moments. But then the movie would have to be about something other than that second daughter around whom it all revolves, and who has practically nothing to do with the only good scene of the film.

Egyesült szerelmes államok (2016)

angol 51st KVIFF – I don’t know what to think about this movie. It tells the story of three women, each longing for a slightly different kind of love. But every time their story starts and becomes interesting, the director brutally cuts it off and never returns to it. The first story was the most interesting and then it had a downward trend. I had to try really hard to watch until the very end. However, I must admit that the camerawork was excellent. Unfortunately, it films the environment of an absolutely gloomy Polish housing estate located in the middle of a snowy field in the winter, which doesn’t exactly help. The poster for this movie is, I would say, all-telling.

Gleißendes Glück (2016)

angol 51st KVIFF – Somehow, I’m not lucky with the films from the main competition of the film festival. Once again, I came across a very unbalanced story, which begins as a solid psychological drama and ends as a love story of two people. Even though the psychological part of the movie started in a very interesting way. And although Martina Gedeck’s character couldn’t express many feelings and emotions from the beginning, she eventually began to really get it.But at that moment it was no longer a philosophical drama, but rather a romantic triangle with no way out. The second half of the movie was very boring and it got better only at the very end, which didn’t manage to save the movie at that point. However, the doctor’s method for testing individual philias on his own body and the following detox were interesting. But I’m not sure if humor even fits into a story like this, because the ending sure didn’t help.
