Jan Palach (2018)

angol I liked a number of Czech Century episodes more than Jan Palach. And yet it's a good film, but it didn't surprise me at all, and never once affected me as strongly as Burning Bush. First of all, I would expect it to be a bolder spectacle - that the creators won't be afraid to speculate a little and come up with a new Palach motif (or at least indicate it). Unfortunately, that didn't happen. I also didn't like all the cheap-looking "clues" like the lighter, the burning leaflets or the burning Hardy, and I'm not completely satisfied with the love triangle, which didn't need to be there at all, or at least should have had a proper ending.

Szerelem szicíliai módra (1968)

angol “The right guy is supposed to try it! But the right woman has to protect herself!" Italian comedies rarely take place in the real world, and hyperbole tends to be necessary when watching them. The Girl with a Pistol is similar, and although my favorite Stanley Baker, for example, felt slightly cluelessly to me, Monica Vitti was great as a hot Sicilian fire on the dry Isles.

Az utolsó csavar (2012)

angol It's a pretty routine flick, but luckily Clint Eastwood is in it and he's a classic, so his fan base won't regret it in the end. But if the story had revolved around a more entertaining sport (like tic-tac-toe, jumping jacks, or chess), it might have been a little better.

Bohém rapszódia (2018)

angol An ode to Queen. Fans will purr with bliss in the movie theatre, enjoy the peaking of the four title characters, the perfect atmosphere and lots of small detail... They won't understand how anyone can sing so much like Freddie (I'd have bet everything that it’s him signing, but apparently it’s not) and look exactly like Brian, and will wait for the finale at Live Aid. And that is some finale! I feel like I'm there, possibly like I'm seriously watching Queen from the recording. Hats off! For those who are sorry that Bohemian Rhapsody is not “bolder", too bad for them. The film does not obfuscate what went on at Freddie's exuberant parties (perhaps there will be dwarves with packages of drugs, a thing Peter Freestone vehemently denies, almost in every interview), but he doesn't show it because he doesn't need to show it. This is a film about love, friendship and one person's determination to get absolutely everything out of himself, on and off stage. And it's a great film.

Queen Rock Montreal & Live Aid (2007) (koncert)

angol Truly a spectacular light show... But what would all those spotlights be for if it wasn't also a spectacular music show? The band plays perfectly, contact with the audience glued to the stage is very tight and the absolute highlights of this concert are first a rousing “Somebody To Love" and the ending of “Another One Bites the Dust" that Freddie in fact sings half-naked, and whatever orientation you are, you just can’t help but to keep watching him. The “bonus" in the form of the complete performance at Live Aid (and rehearsals for it) is, of course, more than just filler of free space on the Blu-ray. It's a fantastic half-hour from dreamland, during which Queen performed the best they could, and during which I believe the best of all the live versions of ‘Radio Ga Ga" can be heard.

Lego Batman - A film (2017)

angol I liked this cheeky but at the same time affectionate parody more than The Lego Movie. Batman is a big time bloke who enjoys his own film very much, just like Deadpool, and when the bad guys from the Phantom Zone burst into Gotham, the parade of references starts flowing just like from Ready Player One. I was also very pleasantly surprised that the typical American “family is everything" motif, to which I am sometimes allergic, is shown here with a giant portion of hyperbole; it’s not pathetic at all, but it is impressive.

The Camp on Blood Island (1958)

angol I feel like this film was made mostly for the final (good) scene. Otherwise, it's an overly dramatic B-movie that wishes it could be something better but can't. The moderate runtime is a plus.

Johnny English újra lecsap (2018)

angol “Simple is my middle name." This time, it really holds true because, along with Johnny English, the lame level of the first installment has returned. Unfortunately, you forget about that sympathetic underdog from the previous picture, because here we once again get the coy and often downright evil individual who you wouldn't want to be close to. If that wasn’t bad enough, even the awkward and predictably simple humor returned that is able to somewhat save Rowan Atkinson, but no one else can deal with the misery, especially the clueless Emma Thompson. It's a shame, because I had hoped for a better comedy, not a mess with a few bright moments (the school, the dance...) and good Goodall music.____P.S. The Czech subtitles were ridiculous again. Why is “100 percent plastic. And 100% deadly" translated as “100% recyclable. Unlike you," will remain a mystery to me forever.

Fekete-tenger (2014)

angol Unfortunately, the promising premise is sunk (Ha!) by the script, which only bothered with the big-hearted character of Jude Law. The other members of the crew and how dumb they behave... that's unprecedented sloppiness. And it's a shame, because the film has good moments and the final cigarette on the pile of gold is actually memorable.

Loft (2008)

angol The closer to the ending, the more twists happen in Loft and the less sense any effort makes to predict how it's probably going to play out. But in doing so, it does not give an overcomplicated impression - the creators wanted to mess with the spectator's minds, which they managed to do, and then surprise them, which was also successful. Maybe it didn't have to be so long and the epilogue was completely unnecessary, but that's just two little criticisms. Otherwise, I had fun and was pleasantly tense.
