30 Rock (2006) (sorozat)

angol After watching the first season, I’m giving it four stars heading to five. I don’t get why this sitcom with such refined script and dialogues (it delivers several surprises per episode) remains under the shadow of The Big Bang Theory and How I Met Your Mother. I’m bringing the rating up to five stars after the second season, I’m in love with the all the characters… even Tracy and Kenneth. Bringing it down to four during the fifth season, or to 7/10. The fun went downhill.

Rituals (1977)

angol Once again, I allowed myself to get very excited only to cry over the results. It’s true that Rituals has a lot in common with Deliverance, it’s also true that the atmosphere is reminiscent of other forest horror pieces like The Blair Witch Project, and the remarks about its very slow pace are also accurate. But it didn’t shock or affect me in any way, quite the opposite, in fact, the film left me feeling perfectly cool. The only emotion it aroused was disenchantment at the boring and amateur looking stuff I was watching. In short: a rightfully forgotten “gem”… :-(

Otthonunk (2009)

angol I’d be wary to call Home a documentary that presents true (objective) facts, but it works perfectly as an environmental pointing finger. However, the idea that I took home from the cinema probably wasn’t what the creators intended – a flu pandemic might be the best that could happen to our planet…

Ördögi találmány (1958)

angol There are good films that simply don’t work out on you, and this just happened to me with The Deadly Invention. I refuse to be objective, 2*, no more than that.

Ezt jól kifőztük! (2005)

angol There are a couple of funny moments, but the unfunny distastefulness and obscenity is overwhelming. (I had to watch it for English at school – the topic of food and drink – I would have never watched it myself).

Dread (2009)

angol The same case as with Book of Blood, stretching Barker’s short stories to feature length doesn’t do them any favours. Interesting moments drowned in a sea of boredom. It’s a shame.

Víruscsapda (2009)

angol Completely different to what I expected and wanted, but pretty interesting nonetheless. Instead of horror or thriller, this is a drama that hides an incredibly high potential and, unfortunately, hides it very well. The intense emotions are scarce and I only felt tension in three scenes, basically, they should have gone either harder or deeper, this is unsatisfactorily half way. Carriers left me with the impression of a sinfully squandered opportunity, but I’m still giving it three stars. It’s good, but it could be a lot better.

Where the Hell is Matt? (2008)

angol Exaggerating a little: this is the best stuff I watched in November ‘09. A brilliantly positive celebration of the human spirit.

Triangle (2009)

angol A similar game with time as Timecrimes (no, this is not a spoiler, the film makes that clear very early, and even that four minute trailer doesn’t hide everything), with a similar setting as Death Ship and a climax as arguable as A Perfect Getaway. It’s certainly worth the attention, though, Christopher Smith improves with every film (even though I already liked Metro) and there were several moments that even made me consider five stars (during the first act). In the end, it’s not that great, but it left me with an overall positive feeling, though I will need at least another viewing to make sure this film makes sense… There were several times that made me feel a similarly bleak “psycho” atmosphere as the X-Files episode Dead Calm.

Colin (2008)

angol This could be rated in any possible way. At the beginning I was thrilled at how nice this 43 quid film looked, at how good the atmosphere and the make-up were, etc. Then things become incredibly slow and by the end I even skipped some passages. Basically, that initial excitement subsided very quickly and I was bored most of the time (100 minutes can be a lot, even for professional zombie horror).
