Farkasember (2010)

angol The longer they postponed premiere, the more my concerns about the final product grew, but Joe Johnston handled it more than decently. This is not such a fundamental achievement as the first Wolfman, but, to be honest, who could expect it to be? The action is fast, brisk and (in the unrated version) good and bloody, the atmosphere is also good. Benicio Del Toro may be doing nothing more than usual, but Anthony Hopkins and Hugo Weaving (Abberline is probably the best character and I'd love a spin-off or a part two if he was in it) steal the show at times. Elfman's music perfectly complements the plot, and the main theme seemed to me to be a jauntier version of Dracula, which is not a criticism, but a compliment, because it sounds truly superb. It is said there is no sin in killing a beast, only in killing a man. But where does one begin and the other end?

Solomon Kane (2009)

angol Total satisfaction. This is what every Howard fantasy movie was supposed to look like. Bassett made a movie on a small budget that can proudly stand side by side with, say, The Lord of the Rings. The story is straightforward, but it pleasantly surprises several times, mainly through how realistic it feels at times (like in the short stories). And James Purefoy? Awesome. I don't think they could have picked a better Solomon Kane. He manages to transform himself from an evil bastard into a more moderate evil bastard who wants to snatch his soul from Satan's clutches. The action scenes, full of blood and mud, are admirable. Just superb. The whole thing is colored by Badelt’s wonderful score. Hopefully one day we'll see a sequel. If you save our child, your soul, too, will be saved.

Ha/ver (2010)

angol Kick-Ass and the ultimate Slaughter. Kick-Ass works with the usual themes but in a way you've never seen before. Vaughn is full of ideas, and every action scene is a dream come true for fans of action movies (a shootout in the dark, Daddy's action scene, the final showdown) and each has its own specific atmosphere. The actors are all excellent and, most importantly, NICOLAS CAGE is back (yes it has to be written in all-caps, because his Daddy is a return to major league acting). And we no longer have Angelina Jolie as Lara Croft but Chloe Moretz as Hit-Girl. And as a fan of Lost, I just can’t help myself... I'll catch up with it, ha ha. Unless I have a heart attack tomorrow. Bazooka?

My Best Friend's Birthday (1987)

angol In itself, this half-hour torso of a movie isn’t about anything much, but for Tarantino fans this is something like a foundation stone. We see his approaches in their infancy and it must be said that they haven’t changed that much. Of course, MBFB is packed full of movie references (even to himself K-Billy's Supersounds of 70's, Aldo Ray etc.), snappy lines, funny situations, excellent music and of course Elvis. Even Quentin looks like his own double. - I was three, but I remember like it was yesterday. Out of the blue I felt depressed for no reason whatsoever. Just this dark cloud hanging over my head. I was gonna commit suicide. I was actually gonna commit suicide. I was gonna go open the bathroom, I was gonna fill a tub of hot water, and I was gonna slice open my veins. I was actually gonna... I mean, I was gonna do it! Now for a three year old to be thinkin' like that, that’s really depressing. And you know, what saved me was the The Partridge Family. The Partridge Family was coming on, I really wanted to see it. Okay so I watch The Partridge Family, then I kill myself.

A Csapda (1998)

angol Excellent. Nolan works skillfully with storytelling, he knows when to tell and when not to tell, if you know what I mean. The whole time you’re following him, breathing down his neck, but he knows full well that you’re there and so he changes direction to confuse you and then disappears all of a sudden, only to reappear behind you and push you under a train. And the only thing that crosses your mind as you fall under the wheels of the express is... surprise.

Ocean's Thirteen - A játszma folytatódik (2007)

angol A relaxing watch carried along again by the old customary crowd. Surprisingly, I didn’t much like Al Pacino (but maybe that was due to the badly chosen voice in the dubbed version I watched) and he even lost some of his wickedness that we know and love. On the other hand, I really enjoyed the end. I’m just pleased when a plan goes right. :)

Pi (1998)

angol Come on... let’s calculate the whole world! Darren Aronofsky packaged the basic truths of existence and being in an atmospheric cape full of paranoia, migraines and, of course, mathematics. + A great soundtrack. 3.14 will never look the same again. 12:50, press return.

Daybreakers – A vámpírok kora (2009)

angol A catchy and logical world that works to the smallest detail. A plot that looks at the theme of vampires slightly from the other side. Great actors. Good action. Interesting ideas. Not like that Twilighthogwash. It falls only a fraction of an inch short of five stars.

Farkaséhség (1999)

angol This movie is mouthwatering nutritious and tasty, full of unexpected ingredients and delicious acting performances. Robert Carlyle is simply awesome and Guy Pearce delivers us his standard performance at very least. Director Antonia Bird cooked up an excellent meal for the movie gourmet and I’m pleased it was traditional Czech-style cooking. - What are you cooking? - It’s uh... stew. - Need any help? - No, no, no. Perhaps later you might... contribute.

Komfortos mennyország (2009)

angol In short, weird. Jackson is a good director, but the story jumps from one level to another too often and so it’s hard for the viewer to build a sufficiently strong bond with any of them. Visually exquisite and emotionally very strong scene from “purgatory" sometimes contrast weirdly with the “real world" (yes, mainly with smokey Susan Sarandon), but despite it all, Jackson manages to hold it all together. Sometimes it isn’t about what story you tell, but how you tell it.
