Eine Nacht im Paradies (1931)

angol One of the most beautiful film adventures with Anny Ondra in an Ondra-Lamač-Film production. At first glance, it is a simple but brilliantly vivid story of a seamstress who marries into higher circles. When Monika Böhnicke sings "Mir ist heut' Nacht so sonderbar" at a party there is no happier girl in the world and no one who wouldn't fall in love with her. This film has that unique atmosphere of the early 1930s, of Weimar cinema, and of all the magic they used to make the audience feel like they were in paradise.

Die Frau, nach der man sich sehnt (1929)

angol After 1928, Marlene Dietrich was given only leading roles. In this story (based on the novel by Max Brod), she hones her vamp-woman game to subsequent perfection. To this day, I am still so entranced by the film that it is really hard not knowing the day or the hour if I will ever see The Art of Love, so as to conclude the picture of her work, which took on a truly new dimension with her visit to Vienna in 1927. Just like she did there, here too she began a new unprecedented stage. This is where Marlene’s character Stascha first sacrificed herself, as she did in later films as Marie Kolverer in Dishonored, Frenchy in Destry Rides Again, Blanche Ferrand in The Room Upstairs or Altar Keane in Rancho Notorious... In short, Marlene Dietrich in a silent film is an underrated treasure.

A sejk fia (1926)

angol Rudolph Valentino and his alter ergo Sheik, or his son Ahmed. With this film, you just have to let yourself be carried away by the exotic and silent thrilling romance with the submissive Vilma Bánky, alias Yasmin, and you will feel as good as I do every time you watch it. Valentino couldn't have asked for a better farewell film. If I were ever to define the true essence of a film, this is it. A perfect oriental tale from the golden age of Hollywood cinema. An adventure story full of suppressed passions and true human values. There’s fun, suspense, emotion, and action. Awareness of one's own fetish and unintentional repressed vision of the world according to Freud. All of this offers an unforgettable experience.

Dcery Eviny (1928)

angol From the point of view of Anny Ondra's career, this is an extremely important film, a Czechoslovak-German-Swiss co-production that took her away from her home forever. It's a shame that Daughters of Eve only functions as a rare collector's item due to the lack of a copy in the NFA. The film has a lot to offer and I was very satisfied. The film features the playful group of Anny, her shy and sweet Karel Lamač, Theodor Pištěk, and Máňa Ženíšková and several other foreign faces. Apart from that, it has a wonderfully ironic story, interesting exteriors, expensive costumes, and even Anny in a swimsuit. :)

Příchozí z temnot (1921)

angol This is very good. This is what it looked like when the Czechs went to shoot in Germany and brought it home. :) To this day, one of my strongest experiences from the Czech 1920s, rivaled only by The Flames of Life. The fact is that both films are well-informed by the work of the Germans. Vladimir Majer is a very good villain and the Ondra-Lamač duo cannot disappoint. The awakened Rudolfinum Charles and his encounter with modern achievements are impressive, as is the then still very distinguished Anny in so many excellent costumes. This is an ideal film to recommend to those just learning about this film industry.

Dr. Mabuse (1922)

angol What Fritz Lang achieved in his two-part films is undoubtedly exceptional. To this day, I still vacillate between the mastery of Aud Egede Nissen and Gertrud Welcker, who dazzled me more, because only Rudolf Klein-Rogge is a definitive god at first glance. The brilliant story of Mabus continues to be overshadowed by the mere fact that his story was set in the 1990s (!), which really wasn't necessary. So back to the 1920s and nowhere else.

Arne úr kincse (1919)

angol Mauritz Stiller and Selma Lagerlöf may not be a clear equation of satisfaction in every case, but when it comes to Arne, I find myself gasping because I don't want to leave those snowy plains. He hadn't had Greta there yet, but she wouldn't have had anything to do here anyway. :)

Asterix és a vikingek (2006)

angol Asterix and the Vikings was the first animated Asterix film that I watched in a movie theater, and it's an adaptation of the comic book "Asterix and the Normans" (1966), which I once coincidentally read as the first comic book in the Asterix saga. It's a beautiful memory.

Asterix Amerikában (1994)

angol I consider this installment in the Asterix cartoon series comparable to its predecessors and successor. It’s got everything, including pirates and an argument over fish, and Asterix's adventures with other cultures are not out of place in terms of innovation. Sometimes I'd like to see his trip to Spain in a movie, for example. Overall, I have no problem with this "problematic" piece.
