The Pakistani Saim Sadiq graduated with a degree in anthropology before studying at Columbia University School of the Arts. His short film Nice Talking to You (2018) was part of the SXSW's official selection, and was shortlisted for the BAFTA Student Award. Darling (2019) screened at the 76th Venice International Film Festival, where it won the Orizzonti Award for Best Short Film. His feature film Joyland was the first Pakistani film to screen at Cannes, where it won both the Jury Prize and the Queer Palm.
