He worked as a cabinetmaker until 1983, when he decided to move to the Himalayas, where he became one of the best photographers and writers specialized in the region. His contributions to magazines such as National Geographic, Géo, Sunday Times, Smithsonian, Life y Paris Match, have made him internationally known. In 1992 he was given a prize by the King of Nepal, the “Gurka Dakshin baho” for his work and contribution to the country. He wrote several books about the Himalayas before shooting his film Himalaya, l’enfance d’un chef in 1997. He is also the director of Chasseurs de miel (1989), The biggest step (2002) and The trail (2006).
