Award winning filmmaker, Cruz Angeles, is an alumnus of UC Berkeley and of New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts, Graduate Film Program. He is one of two directors chosen for the highly selective 2011 HBO/DGA Television Directing Fellowship. In 2010, he directed the sports documentary, Fernando Nation, as part of ESPN Films’ critically acclaimed and Peabody Award winning 30 for 30 documentary series. His feature film directorial debut, Don’t Let Me Drown, was nominated for the Grand Jury Prize, premiering in competition at the 2009 Sundance Film Festival and garnering him a 2009 Gotham Awards nomination for Best Breakthrough Director. In 2006, Cruz was one of two U.S. directors to be invited to participate at the Cannes Film Festival’s L’Atelier Du Festival. He is a Sundance Institute Screenwriting and Directing Fellow, a Director’s Guild of America Award recipient, an Annenberg Film Fellow, a recipient of the 2006 NHK/ Sundance International Filmmakers Award and a United States Artists Fellow.
