Lyric R. Cabral is a filmmaker and photojournalist who documents stories seldom seen in mainstream media. Her verité work explores the intersections of race, religious expression, and surveillance post 9/11. Cabral has received artist grants from BBC Storyville, Tribeca Film Institute, Sundance Institute, the Independent Television Service, Chicken and Egg Pictures, NYSCA, International Documentary Association, and the W. Eugene Smith Memorial Fund. (T)ERROR, her first feature documentary co-directed with David Felix Sutcliffe, was awarded a Special Grand Jury Prize for Breakout First Feature at the 2015 Sundance Film Festival, and was a recipient of a 2013 Creative Promise Award from the Tribeca Film Institute. Filmmaker Magazine named Lyric R. Cabral as one of the 25 New Faces of Independent Film (2013) and American Photo Magazine chose her as one of 15 international photographers to watch. Her photography has been published through Aperture Foundation, National Geographic Channel UK, the Nation, and the Smithsonian Institution Photography Initiative, and was on exhibition with "Gordon Parks: The Making of an Argument."
